  14. I'm having trouble connecting to my online banking service CheckFree. I'm
  15. trying to go through a digital modem over my company's digital phone
  16. system, and it's command set seems to be limited, so I can't get much
  17. information from it. Anyway, After connecting, the software sends a
  18. carriage return to start the communications, and the modem immediately
  19. reports NO CARRIER. Under what condition does the modem report this? In
  20. other words, what signal (or lack of) does the modem use for carrier
  21. detection? Or what other condition could cause this?
